The Nigeria Immigration Service has condemned allegations of extortion levelled against its personnel stationed along the Lagos-Seme Border corridor.

It also relieved Controllers of Immigration serving within the Commands of their duties pending the outcome of the investigation

The Comptroller-General of Immigration, Mrs Kemi Nanna Nandap, has therefore ordered an investigation into the alleged misconduct. She said the actions depicted by the personnel were unacceptable, "and stand in direct violation of the core values, ethics, and operational standards of the Service."

In a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the NIS, Akinsola Akinlabi, the Comptroller-General consequently ordered the temporary relief from duties of the Comptrollers in charge of the affected Commands.

She also "directed a thorough investigation regarding the incidents, to identify all officers involved, and ensure that appropriate disciplinary measures are applied with immediate effect."

The Service reassured the general public that it remains committed to delivering professional, transparent, and efficient services at all points of entry and exit.

"It will not condone any act that undermines public trust or tarnishes the integrity of the Service.

"To this end, members of the public are encouraged to continue to report any form of misconduct through the Service's official social media channels:  X (Twitter): @nigimmigration; Instagram: @nigimmigration; Facebook: @nigimmigration; Contact Center Numbers: 09121900655, 09121556359, 09121477092 (24hrs), as its internal mechanisms are strengthened to uphold accountability and Service excellence.

"The Nigeria Immigration Service remains resolute in its mission to serve with integrity, discipline, and professionalism while facilitating lawful migration", Akinlabi said.
