Improved quality of services now noticeable in telecoms sector, says NCC boss

Mobile Network Service providers are delivering noticeable improvements in quality of services and experience across the country, the Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, Dr. Aminu Wada Maida said on Friday.

Dr. Maida said from statistics available, there is over 170 percent rise in consumption of data due to upgrade of tower sites and telecom infrastructures across the country.

Maida also said a particular operator has invested about one billion dollars in infrastructures upgrade, apart from general investments of over a billion dollars in the sector the previous year.

According to him, over 3,000 tower sites and infrastructures were upgraded the previous year, while the Commission planned 12, 000 sites upgrade in 2026 out of which, 2,800 have been accomplished by April this year.

He disclosed that these investments have precipitated quantum leaps of improvements in quality of services with consumers having a better quality of experience in the telecommunications ecosystem. He added that general complaints from consumers have reduced substantially as 351,000 complaints were received by the Commission in January 2025 against 76,000 in January this year.

The EVC who spoke at a media parley with reporters at Fraiser Hotel Abuja, pleaded with Nigerians and consumers to exercise patience with developments in the industry as all statistics are pointing to better days ahead.

He said the Commission had plans to support and encourage local assembly and manufacturing of smartphones for Nigerians to have access to affordable devices for digital inclusion and connectivity.
