Stakeholders in the three senatorial districts of Kwara State are drumming up support for the governorship aspiration of Senator Sadiq Umar.

He is representing Kwara North at the red chamber of the National Assembly.

The pharmacist-turned politician will soon formally declare his intention to join the governorship race under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

An industrialist and a Kwara Southerner, Dr Lanre Shittu, urged people of the state to consider the senator’s superb performance at the National Assembly and use same to support his aspiration.

Shittu spoke in Ilorin, Kwara State capital, during a meeting convened by a Kwara Central All Progressives Congress (APC) elder, Dr Olayinka Oniyangi.

On the sidelines of the meeting, Shittu received an award on behalf of the senator from an online medium, Curious TV, for distinguished performance.

The US-based medical practitioner said: “There is no doubt that if you take an objective poll among the good people of the state, many people want the senator to be the next governor to build on what Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has done in the last seven years.

“But politics and getting into government is a little bit more complicated than that. This is why we are using this forum to encourage people to speak out; to focus on facts-based policies; to X-ray all the aspirants to look at what they have done and compare their performances.

“I think at the end of the day, Senator Umar will get the governorship ticket. He is more than qualified and equipped to win the election.’’
