Speaking at the event, Duru said the initiative was driven by a desire to give back and nurture emerging talent within the creative space.
“We are here to be impacted. Today is an initiative borne out of the urge to give back because I know that we have a lot of raw, untapped talent. Today is a destiny shift. This is a Masterclass where aspiring actors and filmmakers, and even those already in the craft, will get practical knowledge you don’t get in classrooms or on film sets. Here you’re hearing it directly from the veterans’ mouths,” she said.

The convener also stressed the importance of collaboration in the industry, describing it as a key driver of growth and sustainability.
“In this industry, collaboration is underrated, and I can tell you that is what we need because no man is an island, no man can do it all. For me personally, collaboration is what has brought me this far,” she added.

As part of efforts to deepen engagement, Duru introduced a monologue contest into the programme, giving participants an opportunity to actively showcase their skills.
“I decided to add a monologue contest to the event because I want to be intentional about what I’m doing. I want you to know that you are coming to learn and not just learn; you’re coming to get involved. By that, the participants are part of the Masterclass itself,” she said.
The masterclass featured panel sessions, interactive discussions and networking opportunities, with participants gaining firsthand knowledge from industry veterans on acting, filmmaking and career development.
Stakeholders at the event noted that initiatives like ‘The Main Character Masterclass’ are critical to bridging the gap between emerging talents and established professionals, while fostering collaboration and growth within Nigeria’s creative industry.
