Afrobeats singer Zlatan Ibile has said the rise of influencer culture is reshaping the Nigerian entertainment industry and influencing music production quality.

Speaking on the Afrobeats podcast hosted by Shopsydoo, the artist noted that music-making is no longer limited to professional musicians.

He explained that skitmakers, pranksters, TikTok creators, and other social media influencers are now releasing songs that gain widespread attention.

According to him, while musicians previously dominated celebrity status, influencers and content creators now share that space.

Zlatan said this shift accounts for the viral success of songs released by influencers, adding that the trend has implications for overall music quality.

“It used to be that artists were the celebrities, but now TikTokers, influencers, and content creators are celebrities. That is why you can see an influencer or skit maker drop a song and it blows up,” Zlatan said.

Singer Kcee earlier expressed similar concerns, stating that the rise of social media influencers has affected the organic nature of music, streams, and charts.

Kcee said influencer culture has some benefits, but the disadvantages outweigh them.
