The Registrar/Chief Executive Officer of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply Management of Nigeria (CIPSMN) Prof Mohammed Aliyu has underscored the need to shift from credential obsession to competence, focus, professional and technical ability.
He said it has become imperative for procurement managers and government to scientifically and technically collaborate in protecting the progressing sector to derive value for tax payers’ money.
Aliyu spoke during the Induction of New Graduate Diploma Members Batch ‘A’ 2026 and Award/Conferment of Academic Fellowship on three members, which took place at the Lagos Airport Hotel, Lagos. No fewer than 202 members were inducted.
He urged President Ahmed Bola Tinubu to look into the issue regarding procurement and supply chain management professionalism and practice in Nigeria, calling for the inauguration of the National Council on Public Procurement (NCPP).
Aliyu said to secure the economic future of the country, the institute and the government must collaborate to bridge skills gap through greenness, resilience, innovation and sustainability in procurement and supply chain management strategies.

“This is to let Mr. President know that, things are not well with the procurement practice in Nigeria, which has for fraud, corruption, bid rigging and many more, become everyone’s love and fight to practice without the necessary prerequisite knowledge.
Meanwhile we need to reason together, and partner with government despite the hardship we are facing now to turn around the economy of our great country and all hands must be on deck in order to achieve this,” he said.
The President of the institute, Alhaji Sikiru Oladepo Balogun, urged inductees to continue their professional development, adhere to the best practices and commit to lifelong learning for success.
“Be bold in your pursuit of excellence, be diligent in your responsibilities, be ethical in your decisions, and above all, be ambassadors of positive change in Nigeria procurement landscape,” he said.
According to him, the induction of the graduate diploma members was a recognition of hard work, resilience, and commitment to acquiring knowledge and professional competence in a discipline that sits at the heart of organisational efficiency, public accountability and national development.
