The Oluwo of Iwo, Abdulrasheed Akanbi, has called on United States President Donald Trump to apologise over his handling of the ongoing Iran conflict, warning that such a move is crucial to preserving global leadership credibility and stabilising the world economy amid rising tensions.

In a statement he personally signed, Oba Akanbi said it was not too late for Trump to apologise to Iran and its leadership, while reaffirming his admiration for the United States.

“America is a dream country built on justice and credibility. Previous leaders have made remarkable contributions to sustain its integrity. The current conflict between Iran and Israel is a test of leadership for the US. Trump is failing, but it is not too late to correct the mistakes,” he said.

The monarch added that an apology to Iranian authorities and NATO allies could help restore the United States’ leadership standing, noting that relations among NATO nations were becoming strained.

“The world needs decisive and responsible leadership from Trump. A good leader admits mistakes and takes corrective steps,” he stated.

Akanbi also highlighted the broader consequences of the conflict, particularly its economic impact, warning that prolonged tensions could deepen global instability.

“The economy can still be rescued. The wounds should be healed rather than aggravated. Trump should offer a comprehensive apology to Iran’s leadership. The world is already reacting to the loss of lives, and sovereign nations must be treated with respect,” he said.

He cautioned against allowing personal ego to drive global decisions, stressing that dialogue remains the most viable path to peace.

“The global economy should not suffer due to ego-driven actions. The world is too fragile for that. Opening dialogue with Iran is essential, while Israel must also improve its international relations. Peaceful coexistence remains critical for global survival,” he added.
