In a stellar display of academic brilliance, Dr. Ismail Muhammad Abubakar emerged the overall Best Graduating Student of the MBBS Class of 2023 at Bayero University Kano.

Hailing from Katsina State, the young doctor distinguished himself by not only topping his class but also clinching three major departmental awards: Best in Biochemistry, Best in Medicine, and Best in Surgery. This rare and remarkable triple achievement underscores his exceptional mastery of the medical programme.

The milestone was formally announced on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, during the 10th Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) and 24th MBBS Joint Induction Ceremony held at the Convocation Arena, BUK New Campus.

At the event, 149 new healthcare professionals, comprising 131 doctors and 18 dentists, were officially inducted into the profession.

Dr. Abubakar's success has been warmly celebrated by the university community.

The official BUK student page on Instagram described him as “Excellence in Human Form,” writing: “Meet Excellence in Human Form. Meet Dr. Abubakar Isma'il from Katsina State the Best Graduating MBBS Student of Bayero University Kano. This achievement is a testament to years of discipline, sleepless nights, relentless dedication, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. From demanding clinical postings to intense examinations, you stood out among the best and today, you wear the crown. You didn’t just study Medicine… you mastered it.

"Your success is an inspiration to thousands of students who dare to dream big. The journey ahead is even greater, and the impact you will make in saving lives and advancing healthcare will be remarkable. Congratulations, Doctor. The future of medicine is brighter with you in it".

Fellow student Abubakar Salisu Kazaure also paid tribute on Instagram, stating: "Dr. Abubakar Ismail Muhammad emerged as the Best Graduating MBBS Student (BUK) — Class of 2023.

"Dr. Abubakar Ismail Muhammad was recognized for his outstanding academic performance and commitment to excellence throughout his studies at Bayero University, Kano.

"This recognition was formally announced on 28th April, 2026, during the 10th BDS and 24th MBBS Joint Induction Ceremony of Newly Qualified Doctors and Dentists, held at the Convocation Arena, BUK New Campus.

"The university community congratulates Dr. Abubakar Ismail Muhammad and extends its appreciation to the faculty and staff who supported his academic journey".

In a humble and reflective post on X, Dr. Ismail Abubakar himself shared his remarkable journey, listing several leadership positions he held during medical school. These included Former National President and Vice President of the Katsina Medical Students Association, Director of New Media for NIMSA, Northwest Director of Academics/Quiz & Information, Deputy Director of SCOPE, Fellow of FAMP & YLCP, and #YOLHAC Champion.

He added: "Alhamdulillāh. Today, I was inducted into the medical profession as Best Graduating Student, MBBS Class of 2023, Best in Biochemistry, Best in Medicine, and Best in Surgery. How? All I can say is: ‘This is from the bounty of my Lord.’ ‘The grace of Allah — He gives it to whom He wills.’”

Dr. Abubakar's story stands as a powerful proof to what can be achieved through discipline, dedication, and faith.
