Jakande said: “What we have witnessed this morning is full compliance by all the residents. We have gone all around the whole of the streets from 6.30am and what we have witnessed is full compliance. As a matter of fact, our markets were all clean including the popular from Ojuwoye and Awolowo markets.”

Jakande assured residents that the waste would be evacuated, assuring them of having enough trucks to go round.

He added that the council had provided waste bags for easy transfer to the waste vehicles.

Head of Environment Department, Fawole Olukemi, identified advocacy and sensitisation as reasons for the compliance.

She said the residents turned out in large numbers to clean their surroundings.

“Every one of them is aware. They came in numbers to do what they are expected to do,” she said.

She advised residents to maintain a clean environment, and sustain the effort, noting that cleanliness directly impacts public health.

According to her, hygiene environment would help prevent infections and diseases.
