Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, Bathiya Wesley, and Majority Leader, Kate Mamuno, were among eight Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmakers who defected on Wednesday.

The latest defections marked the third wave this week. The first occurred on Monday, February 23, when Abdullahi Abubakar of Girei Constituency left the party. Six other PDP lawmakers followed on Tuesday, February 24, announcing their resignations.

Those who defected on Wednesday alongside the Speaker and Majority Leader include Moses Yerima Zah (Michika Constituency), Pwamwakeno Mackondo (Numan Constituency), Adun John Alaba (Uba Gaya Constituency), Bulus Kantom (Shelleng Constituency), Musa Mahmud Kallamu (Mayo Belwa Constituency), and Japhet Hammanjabu (Verre Constituency).

The eight lawmakers announced their decision during plenary, citing the crisis within the PDP at the national level as the reason for their departure.

The sweeping resignations follow the widely anticipated exit of Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, the party’s leader in the state.
