Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has dissolved the state Executive Council as part of measures to give his administration a fresh beginning.

The governor's action came the same day The Nation reported that Fubara was set to dissolve his cabinet in line with the new peace deal to permanently end the political crisis in Rivers.

The governor also appointed a new Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Onwuka Nzeshi, weeks after he secretly laid off the former CPS, Nelson Chukwudi.

Fubara, in a statement signed by Nzeshi, directed all commissioners and special advisers to hand over to the permanent secretaries or the most senior officers in their ministries with immediate effect.

The governor expressed his appreciation to the outgoing members of the Executive Council and wished them the best in their future endeavours.

The statement said, "His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, Governor of Rivers State, has dissolved the State Executive Council.

"His Excellency, the Governor, has therefore directed all Commissioners and Special Advisers to hand over to the Permanent Secretaries or the most senior officers in their Ministries with immediate effect.

"His Excellency further expresses his deepest appreciation to the outgoing members of the Executive Council, wishing them the best in their future endeavours".
