A yet-to-be-identified driver was killed on Sunday when his yam-laden vehicle struck an improvised explosive device (IED) on the Lumma-Babanna road in Borgu Local Government Area.
The incident occurred around 2 p.m. on an alternative route that drivers have used since suspected terrorists destroyed the main bridge linking Lumma-Babanna to the Benin Republic.

The attacks followed the March 23 bombing of the Lumma-Babanna-New Bussa Bridge, which connects the area to Agwara communities.
Security officials have attributed the bridge destruction to terrorists, suspected to be operating from the nearby Kainji National Park, aiming to impede security operations and facilitate free movement in the area.
Residents have said the bridge’s destruction has crippled commercial traffic between local communities and the Benin Republic, severely affecting trade and daily economic activities.
