The Inclusion Project (TIP) has called on the government to strengthen accountability, promote inclusive learning environments, and ensure that girls can fully access and benefit from quality education.

It convened a multi-stakeholder dialogue on the impact of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) on girls’ education.

The dialogue brought together representatives from the justice sector, law enforcement agencies, education stakeholders, community leaders, religious leaders, and girls from local communities.

Discussions centred on the impact of SGBV, poverty, early marriage, insecurity, and weak accountability on girls’ education and retention.

Justice actors emphasised the importance of thorough investigation, evidence-based prosecution, survivor-centred approaches, and timely justice to prevent re-victimisation.

Participants called for continued collaboration among all stakeholders to guarantee that girls remain safe, supported, and able to thrive in school.

A key highlight of the event was the launch of the Girls’ Education Monitoring Scorecard, a tool designed by girls, for girls, to assess safety, inclusion, hygiene, justice, and participation in schools and communities.

The scorecard is intended to generate evidence for constructive dialogue and improvements rather than assign blame, giving girls a voice in shaping the policies and practices that affect their lives.

TIP’s Program Officer, Merem Confidence, said: “By centring girls in the monitoring and evaluation of their education and community experiences, we are empowering them to advocate for their rights while ensuring accountability and inclusion.”

TIP Director, Pamela Okoroigwe, said through initiatives like this dialogue and the scorecard, TIP reaffirms its commitment to leveraging the law, community engagement, and education advocacy to protect vulnerable girls and promote inclusive opportunities.

“Every girl has the right to 12 years of quality education, free from violence, fear and discrimination, regardless of her community or economic status,” she said.
