Soba Local Government Area has secured clearance for its 2026 budget proposal following a detailed defence before the Kaduna State House of Assembly Committee on Appropriation and Implementation.

Chairman of the council, Mohammed Lawal Shehu, while defending the proposal, disclosed that the 2025 approved budget stood at about N5.36 billion but recorded an actual performance of over N7.7 billion.

He attributed the sharp increase in performance to improved revenue mobilization, prudent financial management and strengthened fiscal discipline within the council.

Shehu explained that the rise in personnel costs was largely driven by the implementation of the new minimum wage and consequential salary adjustments in alignment with policies of the Kaduna State Government.

He added that despite the increased wage obligations, the council executed capital projects worth over N3.5 billion during the year under review, reflecting what he described as a balanced approach to recurrent and developmental spending.

The chairman presented a proposed 2026 budget estimate of about N6.8 billion, tagged “Budget of Consolidation and Transformation for Inclusive Development,” aimed at sustaining infrastructure expansion and improving service delivery at the grassroots.

After scrutiny and necessary adjustments, the Assembly committee cleared the proposal, expressing confidence in the council’s commitment to transparency, accountability and inclusive growth.

Presiding over the session, Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation and Implementation, Yunusa Shehu-Pambegua, reaffirmed the legislature’s dedication to open governance, noting that the committee remains mandated to review budget performance and proposed appropriations to ensure they serve the best interests of the people of Kaduna State.
