Vice President Kashim Shettima has praised Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani for pioneering the establishment of a State Council on Skills.
He described the initiative as a national model for workforce development, youth employment, and inclusive economic growth.
In a letter addressed to the governor, the Vice President, who also chairs the National Council on Skills (NCS), said the newly inaugurated Kaduna State Council on Skills represents a strategic institutional response to Nigeria’s pressing human capital and unemployment challenges.
A statement yesterday in Abuja by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications in the Office of the Vice President, Stanley Nkwocha, said the commendation followed deliberations at the most recent session of the National Council on Skills, where Kaduna State’s efforts were highlighted as a major policy milestone in advancing coordinated skills development across the federation.
According to Shettima, the establishment of the council “aligns perfectly with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and sets a benchmark for other sub-national entities”.
The Vice President noted that by creating a dedicated institutional framework for skills development, Kaduna State has demonstrated “a proactive commitment to addressing the unemployment gap and fostering human capital development in line with our national objectives”.

He described the initiative as evidence of an integrated vision for economic transformation, applauding the Kaduna State government for adopting a structured approach to skills acquisition and workforce readiness.
“This milestone is a testament to your administration’s vision of integrated economic growth,” Shettima said.
He added that the National Council on Skills views the Kaduna model as “a vital template for the ‘bottom-up’ approach to skills acquisition,” stressing that such a framework is critical for ensuring that vocational and technical training initiatives effectively reach grassroots communities.
Shettima also called for sustained collaboration between the National Secretariat and the Kaduna State Council to harmonise standards and scale the impact of ongoing interventions.
The Vice President noted that stronger coordination would enhance the delivery of skills development programmes nationwide.
He reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening human capital development as a cornerstone of economic reform, urging other states to emulate Kaduna’s initiative in building a skilled and competitive workforce capable of driving national growth.
