In commemoration of Women’s Month, Nigerian dancer and wellness advocate Dr. Kafayat ‘Kaffy’ Shafau has launched the inaugural session of a new empowerment initiative, ‘Sisters’ Circle.’

The community event, held in Lagos, brought together women across all age groups and social strata for intimate conversations centered on holistic health, financial goal-setting, and the cultivation of stronger communal bonds. The theme of the conference is: Wealth. Wellness. Womanhood.

Speaking on the vision behind the initiative, Kaffy explained that ‘Sisters’ Circle’ was born out of a need to foster confidence and authentic sisterhood among African women.

“The idea comes from my personal experience growing up in Africa,” she said.

“As a young lady, I found myself handling responsibilities meant for grown adults without a nurturing sisterhood to give me a head start. We need spaces where those who have gone before us can teach us how to manage people and prioritize our health.”

Kaffy noted that while society is full of high achievers, there is often a silence regarding how to navigate the specific challenges of motherhood and career scaling. She specifically highlighted the “directional gap” facing the younger generation.

“There is a lot of information overload in society today that is confusing Gen Z. They have a strong sense of self-worth and energy, but they aren’t being nurtured. ‘Sisters’ Circle’ is here to correct that,” she said. “Women can’t continue to live in victimhood. The goal is to build an authentic community of sisters equipped with knowledge and self-awareness.”

Breaking away from the typical “once-a-year” event cycle, Kaffy confirmed the initiative will be a quarterly gathering, with the next session slated for July.

The advocate also revealed plans for grassroots expansion.

“We are going to break these conversations down into local dialects to reach rural areas. We want to present this in a way an ‘Iya Ramota’ can understand, and where even a ‘Baba Silifat’ learns how to better support and treat his wife.”

Among other speakers at the event was Dr. Tewa Onasanya, Grace Ofure, Uriel Oputa, Dr. Chizor Malize, and many others.
