As the Ramadan nears its climax, polo clubs across the country are lining up a number of events to celebrate the post fasting festivities in grand style with the noble game of polo.
Preparations are in top gear by management of top clubs like Guards Polo Club, Abuja, Kaduna Polo Club, Katsina Polo Club, Bauchi, Minna, Jos and Yola among others.
Other major polo centers like Kano Polo Club, Maiduguri, Sokoto, Zaria, Jalingo and Gombe polo clubs are putting together exciting Eid Polo events and funfairs are putting finishing touches to preparations to host a special tournament as the highpoint of 2026 Sallah Holidays.
Apart from celebrating Sallah, the festive tourneys that are traditionally open to playing members of the respective clubs usually present a timely opportunity for the clubs to prepare their players ahead of the commencement of the polo season that went on recess in February before the Ramadan Fasting period sets in.
A chieftain of Kaduna Polo Club who dropped this hint, stated that the Sallah holiday in Kaduna this year would be special and memorable as the management of the club is planning to host a special tournament during the holidays.

“Yes, we are hoping to organize a special Sallah mini tournament this year for all the good reasons,” he reassures, adding that “Kaduna Polo Club has a tradition of hosting Sallah tournaments and the committee is pulling all stops to host another exciting and memorable event this April,” the tournament official disclosed. “It would be three or four days of fun as we enjoy the Sallah holidays with our family members and friends during the festivities at the foremost Murtala Mohammed Square that has played host to high profile events including the much-anticipated Eid fiesta.”
There are strong indications that other clubs like Guards Polo Club in Abuja, Kano Polo Club, Katsina Polo Club, Minna Polo Club, Bauchi Polo Club, Yola Polo Club and a number of private polo clubs, are also planning similar tournaments as part of events lined up for Eid festivities this year.
The foremost Maiduguri Polo Club, the newly inaugurated Jalingo Polo Club, Zaria Polo Club and Sokoto are also planning to host tournaments and Durbar events during the celebration scheduled to be held in March, shortly after the Ramadan Fasting period.
The Seat of the Caliphate is also reportedly set to celebrate Sallah in grand style as Sokoto Polo Club is planning to host a mini tournament during the festive period to mark the end of the fasting period.
The mini event this year is said to be part of a long list events by the club to showcase to the public that Sokoto polo is back and galloping, just as the idea is also generating a lot of interest among polo enthusiasts within the state and across the country.
“We are hoping to use the Salah event to solicit public support in our effort to develop our new land the governor kindly allocated to us in fulfilment of his promise to resuscitate the noble game of the kings in the states,” he added.
Over the years, the annual Sallah mini tournament has enjoyed the patronage of the Sultan of Sokoto, His Royal Highness, Sultan Saa’d Abubakar (111), the State Governor, National Assembly members, highly placed indigenes of the state and the teeming polo enthusiasts in the state.
Since the game went into hibernation in the Seat of Caliphate some years back, this Sallah event has remained the only touch of hope of restoration of the noble game in the state.
