A Visitation Panel to investigate the lingering problems at the Kebbi State-owned Abdullahi Fodio University of Science and Technology, Aliero, has swung into action.
The panel was inaugurated on Monday by Governor Nasir Idris at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi, under the Chairmanship of former Minister of Science and Technology, Prof. Muhammad Abubakar Ka’oje, the pioneer vice chancellor of the Institution.
The governor directed the committee to investigate and make recommendations to end the crisis in the university.

“There have been lingering problems facing the university, a very serious conflict between the management and the council.
“Not long ago, I got the information that the Ministry of Higher Education for a long time has been trying to resolve the matter but the problems kept growing by the day.
“Everything is suffering in the institution, I had wanted to dissolve the Governing Council and send the management packing, including the vice chancellor.

“Internal matters have persisted, some are writing to ICPC and EFCC, without my knowledge as the sitting governor,” Idris said.

The governor remarked that the panel members were selected based on their prime position as professionals of repute.
“We know you can do the job, we’re confident that you’ll come up with a formidable report to resolve the entire matter permanently.
“I’m also ordering the management as a must, to surrender all documents required including finances; you must cooperate with the committee, failure of which, I will hold you responsible,” Idris warned.
He directed the Secretary to the Government to ensure that whatever would make the panel members comfortable to perform their assignment was provided to them.
Ka’oje affirmed their resolve to carry out the work with courage and dexterity.
“With the pedigree of the members, I am most comfortable we shall recommend appropriate solutions to the problem, we’ll not disappoint you,” he said.
