The 5,000 new guards will collaborate with the relevant security agencies for effective policing of the 11 local governments in the capital city.

The inauguration was held at the Palace of Olubadan, Oke Aremo, in Ibadan North Local Government.

The guards are to be posted to the 11 local government areas of Ibadanland.

The ceremony was necessitated by the prevailing security challenge in some of the local governments.

Also, the occasion witnessed the inauguration of Ibadan Economic Investment and Business Development Desk and Ibadan Food Security Initiative/Gaari Ibadan.

Akande said the Olubadan Economic and Investment Committee (OEIC) and the newly inaugurated Ibadan Security Guard were keys to the industrial growth of Ibadanland.

She said OEIC had the target of attracting local and foreign investment to Ibadan.

The former minister, who is also the chairman of the committee, noted that investment could not thrive without provision of adequate security, hence the establishment of Ibadan security guard to complement the efforts of the relevant security agencies.

She lauded the initiatives of Oba Ladoja in setting up the committee, saying it would reshape the economy of the ancient town and provide employment opportunities for youths.
