As political activities gradually intensify ahead of the next electoral cycle in Lagos State, a citizen-driven movement is beginning to reshape traditional campaign dynamics across the metropolis.

The group, known as “KOHmmunity,” has emerged as a grassroots coalition mobilising support for the governorship aspiration of Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, operating largely outside conventional political structures.

From Yaba’s tech clusters and Akoka’s academic environment to the commercial hubs of Alaba and Lagos Island, the movement has recorded growing visibility, driven by what observers describe as an organic, bottom-up approach.

Unlike traditional campaign machinery, KOHmmunity is structured as a broad-based coalition of professionals, artisans, students, and community leaders, reflecting a decentralised and inclusive model of political engagement.

In recent weeks, the group has expanded its reach through coordinated grassroots activities and digital mobilisation. Activation cells have reportedly emerged across multiple wards, while online platforms are being used to amplify issue-based advocacy.

Market traders have incorporated the group’s messaging into daily interactions, students are leading awareness campaigns on campuses, and young professionals are driving data-focused discussions on governance across social media.

The movement is also gaining traction in terms of membership, with more than 5,000 Lagos residents reportedly registered on its platform, indicating growing interest in its objectives.

Speaking on the initiative, Dr. Lanre Ajibade, one of the early conveners, said the movement is anchored on the need for experienced and forward-looking leadership in Lagos.

“The stakes are high. Lagos is at a critical point, and what we are building is not just a support base but a platform for promoting a tested governance framework rooted in competence and innovation,” he said.

The sentiment appears to resonate across different segments of society, cutting across socio-economic divides.

Mrs. Folashade Ajayi, a textile trader and coordinator of a local KOHmmunity cell in Idumota, said the movement reflects a growing awareness among citizens of the impact of governance on livelihoods.

“We are not waiting to be mobilised. We are organising ourselves because the decisions of the next administration will directly affect our businesses and families. We are supporting a vision we believe will deliver measurable progress,” she said.

Analysts note that the rise of KOHmmunity signals an evolving pattern of civic engagement in Lagos, with increased emphasis on continuity in infrastructure development and technocratic governance.

By projecting Dr. Hamzat’s administrative experience as a model for future leadership, the movement translates institutional performance into grassroots political capital.

With formal campaign activities yet to fully commence, the growing influence of such citizen-led initiatives suggests that the 2027 election cycle in Lagos may be shaped less by traditional rallies and more by sustained, community-level mobilisation.
