Lagos State Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, Mr. Akinyemi Ajigbotafe has said that attempting the Guinness World Record is not just about setting a global benchmark, but about setting the youth on the path of economic relevance. He stated that the digital economy offers limitless opportunities, and Lagos was determined to ensure our young people are prepared to compete and win. The Commissioner who spoke at Becky Joe’s Guinness World Record attempt for Africa’s largest social media marketing lesson held at the University of Lagos, last Thursday, described the initiative as a strategic platform that aligns with the Ministry’s mandate to drive sustainable employment through innovation and digital enterprise. The event was designed to break the existing Guinness World Record while equipping young people with practical, income-generating skills in content creation and social media marketing.

“This Guinness World Record attempt is not just about setting a global benchmark. It is about setting our youth on the path of economic relevance. The digital economy offers limitless opportunities, and Lagos is determined to ensure our young people are prepared to compete and win.”

He affirmed that the State Government remains committed to creating opportunities that empower its citizens, unlock creativity, and position the State as a hub for digital innovation and enterprise.

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs. Lolade Aina, noted that the record attempt symbolizes Lagos State’s forward-thinking approach to wealth creation. According to her, social media marketing and content development have evolved into viable business ventures capable of generating sustainable income and expanding global reach for entrepreneurs.

She emphasised that beyond the prestige of a Guinness World Record, the initiative represents a deliberate investment in skills development, digital inclusion, and large-scale economic empowerment.

Becky Joe explained that the programme will be a comprehensive three-month initiative, delivered through a blended format of in-person and virtual sessions, and will equip young people with practical, market-relevant digital skills that foster sustainable income opportunities in today’s dynamiceconomy.
