The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, has warned residents of Agege and environs to caution their wards against cultism and gang violence.
He described the trend as disturbing and unacceptable, also warning property owners to stop shielding cultists.
Fatai spoke at a security meeting organised by the Orile-Agege Local Government Council, which brought together stakeholders from Orile-Agege, Ifako-Ijaiye, and Agege.
Expressing concern over rising criminal activities in the area, the CP said it was troubling to witness insecurity in a community he once knew for peace.
“This is my home, my area,” he said, recalling that residents previously moved freely without fear of attack.
He identified cultism and gang-related killings as major threats in the axis and urged residents to support the police with timely information.

“If you know these boys, call us. Let us pick them up. Security is not a one-man business,” he said, stressing the importance of community collaboration in crime prevention.
Fatai cited Mushin as an example where joint efforts by residents, community leaders, and security agencies helped reduce cult-related violence. He urged stakeholders to adopt a similar approach to restore peace in Agege and adjoining communities.
He also appealed to parents, community leaders, and youths to discourage young people from engaging in criminal activities, warning that the situation had made residents unsafe even in front of their homes.
“There is fire on the mountain,” he said.
In his remarks, the chairman of Orile-Agege Local Government, Akinola Abiodun Idowu, described the security situation as alarming and likened some incidents to acts of terrorism.
He said the council had introduced short- and long-term measures, including a joint security task force and partnerships with state and federal authorities, to strengthen security in the area.
“We are committed to working with all stakeholders to combat criminality and restore peace in our communities,” he said.
