Expressing concern over rising criminal activities in the area, the CP said it was troubling to witness insecurity in a community he once knew for peace.

“This is my home, my area,” he said, recalling that residents previously moved freely without fear of attack.

He identified cultism and gang-related killings as major threats in the axis and urged residents to support the police with timely information.

Fatai cited Mushin as an example where joint efforts by residents, community leaders and security agencies helped to reduce cult-related violence. He urged stakeholders to adopt a similar approach to restore peace in Agege and adjoining communities.

He also appealed to parents, community leaders and youths to discourage young people from engaging in criminal activities, warning that the situation had made residents unsafe even in front of their homes.

“There is fire on the mountain,” he said.

Chairman of Orile-Agege Local Government, Akinola Abiodun Idowu, described the security situation as alarming and likened some incidents to acts of terrorism.

He said the council had introduced short- and long-term measures, including a joint security task force and partnerships with state and federal authorities, to strengthen security in the area.

“We are committed to working with all stakeholders to combat criminality and restore peace in our communities,” he said.
