Lagos gives free eye care, health checks to NDLEA officers
The Lagos State Government on Thursday provided free eye screening, prescription glasses, and general health checks to officers of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency at the NDLEA Lagos State
The Lagos State Government on Thursday provided free eye screening, prescription glasses, and general health checks to officers of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency at the NDLEA Lagos State Command.
The outreach, organised by the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Transport Logistics, is part of the administration’s ongoing health intervention programmes for frontline operatives.
Officers from different formations across the state arrived at the NDLEA Strategic Command, Lagos, for the exercise, which included vision tests, screening for eye defects, prescription of corrective lenses, and general medical checks. The initiative is an extension of similar health programmes earlier held for truck drivers and police personnel in the state.

Deputy Commander of Narcotics A. G. Balogun, from the Apapa Special Area Command, said the intervention was “a welcome development” that would strengthen the agency’s work. “We have been here since morning. The process was smooth. We thank the Lagos State Government for this gesture. It will help us in our duties,” he said.
Assistant Commander of Narcotics, Ogwu Nelson Chidi, from the Seme Special Area Command, described the glasses received by officers as “even better than the ones we had before.” He conveyed the appreciation of the Chairman and Chief Executive of the agency as well as his command leadership, noting that the exercise would enhance operational efficiency.
Commander of Narcotics, Ajoko Rita Chinyere, who heads the Seme Special Area Command, said she was impressed by the efficiency of the screening. “The testing was swift. I got my glasses immediately, and I can see far better than before. We appreciate Governor Sanwo Olu, our Chairman Brigadier General Buba Marwa, and our Lagos Strategic Command leadership for supporting this effort,” she said.
Nichols Ibisa, Commander of Narcotics and Head of Intelligence in Lagos, spoke on behalf of the Lagos State Commander, ACGN Abubakar Liman Wali. He emphasised that good vision is essential for the performance of NDLEA officers.

“If you are having issues with your health, you cannot perform maximally. The eye is a major aspect of the body. We commend the Lagos State Government. They have always been pace setters,” he said.
The outreach is in line with the government’s continuing health support programmes for sectors critical to public safety and mobility. It comes days after the state concluded a similar exercise for truck drivers and earlier extended medical checks to police personnel.
Officials said Lagos would continue to prioritise the welfare of uniformed and operational workers whose duties directly impact transport safety, public health, and security.
