The Lagos State Government has dismissed reports claiming Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu was asked to resign on health grounds, describing the allegation as false.

In a statement issued on Monday, the governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, said there was no basis for the claim, insisting that no such directive had been given.

“Nobody has asked the Lagos Governor to resign — this is another fake news,” Akosile stated, adding that the governor remains in good health and continues to discharge his official duties.

He clarified that Sanwo-Olu had earlier received his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, during a routine courtesy visit.

According to him, Hamzat used the occasion to formally inform the governor of his intention to contest the governorship election next year, noting that the meeting was cordial.

Akosile said the clarification was necessary to prevent the spread of misinformation and to set the record straight.

“We would ordinarily ignore such baseless reports, but the need to reassure Lagosians makes this response necessary,” he added.
