Lagos State Government has inaugurated a 150KVA outdoor solar power system to deliver clean, stable electricity to Radio Lagos and Eko FM station, advancing sustainable public infrastructure.

Speaking at the launch yesterday, Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Gbenga Omotoso, described it as transformative, noting that it was designed to enhance access to clean, reliable and sustainable energy at the station, while reducing electricity burden.

He said: ‘’The project marks a significant stride toward the state government’s goal of developing smarter, more sustainable infrastructure.’’

Omotoso urged the organisation to maximise the use of the solar power system to bridge the electricity gap, with a strong focus on accelerating Nigeria’s transition to clean energy.

Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Abiodun Ogunleye, said the project would deliver clean, stable electricity for critical security and communication systems, while ensuring high service standards were maintained.

The General Manager of Radio Lagos and Eko FM, Jide Lawal, said with the installation of the state-of-the-art solar power system, the station was stepping into a new era of energy independence, sustainability and uninterrupted service to its valued listeners.

He says the solar power project goes beyond panels and batteries, describing it as a bold commitment to innovation, environmental responsibility and excellence in broadcasting.

He noted that Radio Lagos/Eko FM will now run on clean, renewable energy, reducing its carbon footprint, cutting operational costs and ensuring  life-changing programmes reach listeners without any interruption.

Lawal said: ‘’To our workers, let me say that this solar system is your victory too. It means we can focus even more on what we do best, serving our listeners with passion and professionalism and publicising and disseminating the activities, policies and programmes of the state government.

‘’As we inaugurate this solar power system today, let us celebrate not just technology, but also the brighter future it represents for Radio Lagos/Eko FM and the entire broadcasting industry in Nigeria. We are now better positioned to amplify voices, spread hope, educate our people and keep the airwaves alive – rain or shine, day or night.’

Lawal hailed Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for believing in the vision and bringing it to reality.

He also appreciated the efforts of the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, and Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Abiodun Ogunleye, for their shared commitment to ensuring the project became a reality.
