Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Kazeem Alogba, has approved a vacation for the state’s judiciary from April 3 to April 10, 2026, in observance of the Easter break.

Elias noted that the vacation was approved pursuant to Order 49 Rule 4(b) of the High Court of Lagos State (Civil Procedure) Rules, 2019.

Arrangements for Urgent Cases

The Chief Registrar confirmed that provisions have been made to handle urgent matters during the break:

Assigned Cases: Each judge designated for vacation duty will handle urgent applications related to substantive cases already assigned to them.

Unassigned Cases: Urgent applications for matters not yet assigned to a specific court will be handled by judges specifically tasked with vacation duties.

Elias further clarified that, notwithstanding the provisions of Order 49 Rule 4, any cause or matter may be heard during the vacation if it is deemed urgent. This remains subject to the conditions prescribed by Order 49 Rule 5 of the High Court of Lagos State (Civil Procedure) Rules, 2019.
