...seeks attention for Gbaji-Apa-Owode road

Hon. Bonu Solomon Saanu, representing Badagry Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly, has praised Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his commitment to ensuring balanced development across the state following the commissioning of the Badagry West Electrification Project.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, who was represented at the event by his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, was also urged by the lawmaker to give attention to another critical infrastructure project in the area – the Gbaji-Apa-Owode Road.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Saanu expressed appreciation for the electrification of the three HC Tower crossings, the rehabilitation of the 33KV distribution lines along the Gaji-Seme and Owode-Apa corridors, and the connection of 51 transformer substations.

The project was inaugurated on Wednesday at the Kweme Descendants Union in Badagry West.

The lawmaker described the development as long overdue, noting that the electrification initiative had restored a vital social amenity that the communities had been deprived of for years.

He added that the project would improve living conditions and stimulate economic activities in the affected areas while urging the state government to extend similar interventions to other critical infrastructure needs within the constituency.

“And God said, 'Let there be light,' and there was light. (Genesis 1:3)

Badagry West Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you. (saiah 60:1)

“On behalf of the good people of Badagry, especially Badagry West, we say a big thank you to the Lagos state Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and is Deputy Babafemi Hamzat for commissioning the Electrification Project in our community.

“Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat. I am grateful for your visit to my family house yesterday, it means a lot to me. Your presence has boosted my aspirations.

“To the people of Badagry West, thanks for your support in making this project happen. Let's keep an eye on it.

“Next in line for us in Badagry is the Gbaji-Apa-Owode Road. I promise to use my legislative influence to push this through, with God's grace by my side. Many thanks.”

Earlier in his speech the Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat cited the positive impacts of the project being commissioned for the people.

“These represent a deliberate intervention by the state government to address the longstanding electricity challenges in the axis.

“This intervention aligns strongly with our THEMES+ Development Agenda, particularly our commitment to expanding energy access and building resilient infrastructure that supports economic growth across every part of Lagos State, and with the recent inauguration of the Board of the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission, Lagos is positioning itself to regulate and expand electricity supply more effectively, ensuring that infrastructure investments such as this deliver lasting benefits to our people,” he said.

These electrification projects being commissioned will significantly strengthen power distribution across the Gbaji–Seme and Owode–Apa corridor, enabling thousands of homes, shops, and businesses to benefit from improved and more stable electricity supply, while boarder communities such as Badagry must benefit from sustained investment in infrastructure that supports trade, productivity, and community wellbeing,” he said.

Meanwhile, Lagos Governor promise to collaborate with the Federal Government to speed up Gbaji Apa Owode road in Badagry West, and this was made known by deputy Governor

Dignitaries’ turnout at the commissioning was mind blowing as the electrification project really touched the nerve of the people of Badagry West who were largely grateful.
