the 2026 International Workers' Day,
In a statement issued on Friday, Ekong said: I warmly felicitate with Nigerian workers, our nation's proud builders, patriots and backbone of economic and social progress. ''From our teachers nurturing future generations, to healthcare workers preserving lives; from farmers feeding the nation, to artisans, civil servants, transport workers, market men and women, factory workers and the vast informal sector that keeps our economy breathing, today is a day to celebrate your immense contributions to national development.
She added: ''This year's Workers' Day comes at a difficult moment in our national life. We are not unmindful of the severe economic pressures confronting Nigerian workers and ordinary families, rising inflation, high transportation costs, the burden of fuel prices, shrinking purchasing power and the growing struggle to meet basic needs.
''For many citizens, the dignity of labour is being tested by harsh realities. Yet, despite these challenges, Nigerian workers continue to demonstrate uncommon courage, discipline and patriotism. You continue to show up. You continue to produce. You continue to hold the nation together. For this, we salute you!. At the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), we stand in unwavering solidarity with the Nigerian workforce.''
