Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), Zone 2, Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, has expressed confidence in the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, describing him as a tested and trusted officer capable of sustaining the command’s security gains.
Jimoh spoke yesterday while handing over leadership of the state Police Command to Fatai at the command headquarters in Ikeja.
According to him, Lagos’ security architecture was in safe hands, noting that Fatai had served as Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) in the state.
“He is back home. It is a familiar terrain. I am confident he will sustain the tempo and even surpass what we achieved in the last 13 months,” the AIG said.
Highlighting achievements during his tenure, Jimoh said seven divisional headquarters were created to strengthen intelligence gathering, response capacity and effective policing. The divisions are Oshodi, Dangote Refinery, National Theatre, Banana Island/Parkview, Lekki, Otto Awori and Eleko Beach.
He thanked Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for providing facilities for the divisions and the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) for approving their establishment.
Jimoh also cited the command’s zero-kidnapping record and reduction in crime across the state, commending officers for their dedication and urging them to extend the same support to the new commissioner.

Also under his watch, the Eko Strike Force, Federal Highway Patrol Teams, Anti-Crime Patrol and Community Protection Squad were established, massive deployment of personnel to secure the Coastal Road, as well as the donation of the CCTV Camera Control Center for the protection of Third Mainland Bridge and environs.
He further noted ongoing infrastructure projects, including a multipurpose conference hall, renovations at the command headquarters, POWA facilities and other units, as well as the establishment of a police band.
“Under the new IGP, police welfare has improved. We should reciprocate by restoring public trust,” he added.
In his inaugural address, Fatai thanked the IGP for the confidence reposed in him, describing his appointment as a privilege and a call to service.
He pledged to sustain existing security strategies and strengthen intelligence-driven, technology-based and community-focused policing.
“Lagos, as Nigeria’s economic hub and a leading megacity in sub-Saharan Africa transitioning into a smart city, presents complex security challenges. We are prepared to meet them,” he said.
He assured residents that criminal elements would find no safe haven in the state and pledged stronger collaboration with communities, the media and other security agencies.
“Youth engagement will remain a priority as we work to prevent crime and promote mutual respect between the police and the public,” he added.
Fatai also warned officers that discipline, professionalism and respect for human rights would be strictly enforced, stressing zero tolerance for brutality and misconduct.
He assured personnel that their welfare would receive priority attention, while modern technology and enhanced investigative capacity would be deployed to strengthen crime prevention and control.
The CP said operational priorities include tackling cultism and violent crimes, improving traffic discipline, strengthening visibility policing and restoring security in identified flashpoints.
He urged residents to remain law-abiding and report complaints or rights violations through the Complaint Response Unit lines, the Public Relations Office, or nearest police station.
“If you see something, say something. Security is a collective responsibility,” he said.
