The Lagos State Government has urged residents to remain indoors and participate fully in the monthly environmental sanitation exercise scheduled for Saturday, April 25.
Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, in a statement, said the exercise would hold between 6:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. across the state.
He directed residents to clean their surroundings and clear drainage channels in front of their homes before going about their daily activities.
Wahab assured that adequate logistics had been put in place, with waste evacuation trucks and compactors deployed across the five divisions of the state.
He added that the Lagos Waste Management Authority has been positioned to promptly evacuate refuse and debris generated during the exercise.

To ensure compliance, the commissioner said top government officials would monitor the exercise, led by the First Lady, Claudiana Sanwo-Olu, alongside members of the Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials.
He added that the Head of Service, Olabode Agoro, would also lead a separate monitoring team in another local government area.
Wahab noted that major transport unions have pledged to suspend operations from parks and terminals during the exercise period to encourage compliance.
He said the reintroduction of the monthly sanitation exercise followed sustained calls from residents for a designated time to collectively clean their environment.
The commissioner also called on Community Development Associations (CDAs) to mobilise residents and ensure active participation.
According to him, local governments, local council development areas and private organisations have provided tools and logistics to support the exercise.
Wahab warned that environmental health officers and enforcement officials would be deployed across neighbourhoods to monitor compliance, adding that defaulters risk sanctions.
He said offenders would be issued abatement notices and could face prosecution under the state’s environmental laws.
The monthly sanitation exercise was reintroduced by Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu in March during a clean-up exercise in Mushin.
