Coventry City manager Frank Lampard has revealed that Super Eagles midfielder Frank Onyeka is in contention to make his debut in the crucial clash against Middlesbrough.

Onyeka, who joined the Sky Blues during the winter transfer window, was an unused substitute in the goalless draw against Oxford, delaying his first appearance for the Championship side.

The Brentford loanee also missed a couple of training sessions earlier this week following the birth of his second child, a baby boy.

However, the Nigerian international has since returned to training ahead of the top-of-the-table encounter at the CBS Arena.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Lampard confirmed that Onyeka is fit and available for selection as Coventry prepare to face Boro.

“Yeah, he’s ready to go,” Lampard told  Coventry Telegraph. “He had a couple of days off, had the baby on Sunday/Monday, so yeah, he’s training with us."

The former Chelsea midfielder stressed the importance of Onyeka getting valuable training time with the squad ahead of the showdown against Boro.

"It’s good to have a little bit of training time for him before we start to look at the game on Monday," he added.

Onyeka has endured a difficult start to the season, struggling for regular minutes with the Bees in the Premier League.

His limited involvement prompted a loan switch to the Championship side in a bid to secure consistent playing time.

After returning to training and missing out on the clash against Oxford, the Nigerian midfielder will now be hoping to make his debut when his side face Middlesbrough on Monday.
