The Lagos State Government has announced a partial closure of the Lagos–Abeokuta Expressway to facilitate the rehabilitation of deteriorated sections of the road.
The repair works, scheduled to commence on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, are expected to last four weeks.
According to the government, the rehabilitation, supervised by the Federal Ministry of Works, will affect traffic between the U-Turn Bus Stop and the Sango Tollgate, covering both inbound and outbound lanes.
The exercise, which forms part of efforts to improve transport infrastructure and enhance road safety, follows persistent wear and structural damage along the corridor, a major route linking Lagos and Ogun state.

Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed this in a statement, noting the scope of the project, timeline, and traffic management arrangements.
Osiyemi said the rehabilitation would be carried out in phases to minimise traffic disruption.
“The repair works will be executed in two stages, with traffic diverted in a controlled manner to ensure continuous movement while construction progresses,” he said.
He explained that Phase One would focus on the Abeokuta-bound section, where traffic from Lagos and Abule-Egba would be redirected to one side of the carriageway to allow lane-by-lane repairs.
Osiyemi added that upon completion of the first stage, vehicles would be diverted to the rehabilitated portion to enable work on the remaining lanes with minimal disruption to Lagos-bound motorists.

He further disclosed that Phase Two, scheduled for early March, would focus on the Lagos-bound stretch between Obadeyi Bus Stop and Ekoro Junction.
“As in Phase One, work will be executed in halves, with traffic redirected to completed sections, while motorists on the Abeokuta-bound carriageway will maintain uninterrupted movement,” he added.
The commissioner assured residents that traffic management officials and road safety personnel would be deployed throughout the construction period to regulate traffic flow.
He advised motorists to plan their journeys, obey traffic signs, and cooperate with officials during the rehabilitation period.
Osiyemi noted that the partial closure is temporary, assuring that full access to the expressway would be restored upon completion of the repair works.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to providing safer and more efficient road networks for residents and commuters.
