A road crash involving a loaded flatbed truck and a Sport Utility Vehicle disrupted traffic on Tuesday at Ifako, just before the Ifako bridge inward Ogudu, prompting a technology-driven emergency response by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).

The agency moved quickly to contain the situation, deploying officers supported by digital monitoring systems that tracked traffic movement in real time and guided field operations from a central command structure.

Updates from the agency’s Digital Media and Communications team showed how live visuals from the location helped officials assess the scale of the disruption and determine the immediate deployment of towing vehicles and traffic diversion measures.

The crash, which occurred at the ascent of the bridge, left both vehicles obstructing a significant portion of the road and triggered a backlog that extended across adjoining routes, including the Ogudu axis and connecting roads from Alapere.

With continuous communication between officers on the ground and control units, traffic was redirected through a nearby bypass while recovery operations commenced. Officials said the truck was first disengaged from the SUV and cleared from the roadway, after which a second towing vehicle arrived to evacuate the damaged SUV.

Movement was temporarily halted to allow for safe recovery of the vehicles, but traffic flow gradually improved as the operation progressed, guided by real-time updates from the field.

Beyond the immediate response, officials observed that a number of motorists slowed down or stopped to watch the incident, contributing to the congestion recorded along the corridor.
