The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LAWMA) has announced the commencement of a full-scale investigation into allegations that some of its officers extorted ₦100,000 from commercial drivers along Coastal Road in Lagos.
The allegation, which surfaced in a viral Facebook post by a platform identified as Objectv Media, claimed that beginning from an unspecified Monday, LASTMA officials had been arresting commercial bus drivers and demanding payment before releasing their vehicles.

In a statement issued by the agency’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, Adebayo Taofiq, LASTMA described the claims as serious and deserving of urgent attention.
The authority stressed that it does not condone any form of misconduct, abuse of office, or extortion by its personnel.
According to the statement, the management has already initiated a “thorough, impartial and comprehensive investigation” into the matter.
It assured members of the public that any officer found guilty after due process would face appropriate disciplinary action in line with the law and the agency’s regulations.
As part of the investigative process, LASTMA has invited the individual identified as Tosin, who made the allegation, to report to the Office of the General Manager at the agency’s headquarters in Oshodi.

The authority urged him to provide verifiable evidence to support his claims.
“The burden of proof lies on the accuser,” the statement noted, emphasizing the need for credible information to aid the investigation.
LASTMA reiterated its commitment to transparency, accountability, and professionalism, adding that it remains focused on maintaining public trust and ensuring that its officers uphold the highest standards of conduct.
The agency also encouraged the public to report any suspected misconduct through official and verified channels, assuring that all complaints would be treated with seriousness.
