Leadership coach and public speaker Taiwo Isola is set to attempt a Guinness World Record for the longest leadership lecture, with a planned 48-hour continuous teaching session scheduled to take place from May 1 to May 3, 2026, in Osogbo, Osun State.

The initiative, titled ''The Leadership Marathon'', is expected to draw professionals, emerging leaders, and members of the public for an intensive and immersive exploration of leadership. Over the course of two days, Isola will deliver non-stop sessions structured around four thematic areas: Leading Self, Leading Others, Leading Organisations, and Leading Nations.

Beyond the ambition of setting a global record, Isola says the marathon is driven by a broader mission to redefine leadership values and inspire a deeper sense of responsibility among leaders at all levels.

“This is not just another leadership session,” he said. “It is an attempt to challenge how we think about leadership, confront the gap between performance and responsibility, and push toward a model of leadership that builds rather than loots.”

The concept for the marathon draws from Isola's experience teaching a course on Leading Nations at the African Development University, where he engaged with students from multiple African countries. According to him, those interactions revealed a strong sense of patriotism, responsibility, and commitment among young Africans, qualities he believes are critical for nation-building.

Reflecting on those experiences, Isola expressed concern about what he described as a fundamental shift in leadership mindset. “The moment leaders begin to ask, 'What can this nation give me?' before they ask, 'What does this nation need from me?' their institutions begin to die,” he said.

He further noted that institutional decline is often subtle and difficult to detect. “A nation may still hold elections, formulate policies, and commission infrastructure, but become hollow inside. And hollowness is more dangerous than collapse because it disguises failure as function,” he explained.

Isola holds a Master's degree in Education and an MBA in Leadership and Management. He is also an alumnus of Lagos Business School and a recipient of the Embassy of Pakistan Teaching Excellence Award. In addition, he is a Certified Peacebuilder under the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations Young Peacebuilders Programme and has served as Nigeria's delegate to the United Nations Foundation's Our Future Agenda.

Over the years, he has trained and mentored thousands of individuals across Nigeria and beyond, focusing on leadership development, education, and systems thinking.

Organisers said the Leadership Marathon will be live-streamed, allowing participants from different parts of the world to join virtually. The event is expected to attract significant public interest and media attention as Isola pushes the limits of endurance teaching in pursuit of a larger goal, raising a new generation of responsible, service-driven leaders.
