Lekki begins door-to-door food outreach to residents

The Chairman, Lekki Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Lagos, Bamidele Kasali, has distributed food items to vulnerable residents of riverine communities in the council area
Kasali distributed the food palliatives alongside officials of the council, across riverine areas in Lekki.
He said that the initiative aimed to ensure that residents in those areas were not left behind and focused mainly on the elderly, widows, widowers, and other vulnerable members of the community.

He noted that in spite of the difficult terrain, the food items were being delivered directly to beneficiaries through a door-to-door approach.
The food items included: bags of rice, beans, semovita and garrri.

The chairman reiterated his commitment to supporting the good people of Lekki LCDA, adding that the welfare of residents remained top priority for his administration.
He said the council’s efforts were part of a broader strategy to enhance social support programmes, and reduce hardship in underserved communities.

According to him, periodic assessments are conducted to identify households in urgent need of assistance, noting that the food distribution was a monthly exercise which began in January and would run till December.
The chairman assured residents that the food distribution programme would continue in phases, with more communities scheduled to benefit in the coming weeks and months, assuring of an all-inclusive and transparent process.
A beneficiary, Mrs. Yemisi Oguntade, expressed gratitude to the council for the intervention.
She said such initiatives fostered social cohesion and provided relief to those struggling with economic challenges.
Also, a community leader, Mr Tunji Abiodun, commended the council chairman for remembering people at the riverine areas.
He described the food distribution as timely and impactful.
