As part of activities marking the International Women’s Day, clubs under Lions Club Region 1 District 404B2 have held a Breakfast with Widows in Maryland, Lagos.

Tagged: ‘Honouring her strength’, the event held, in partnership with Serendipity House Widows Foundation, Maryland. It featured a breakfast, inspirational talks from women leaders and a health check.

Chief Omokehinde Ayinde Orejoko of Ikeja D’Ivy Lions Club said the event was in line with Lions Club’s tenet of assisting the less-privileged.

This was corroborated by the Secretary, Maryland Golden Lions Club, Omotoyosi Aribalusi, who added that the visit was “to host the widows, encourage and make them understand that they are also cherished’’ while Oguneko Oluwaseunyemi of Ilupeju Achievers Lions Club, said: “We’re celebrating our widows and giving them the courage that once there is life, there is hope.”

Chairperson, Region 1, District 404B2, Olori Dame Ayo Yemisi Jaiyeola, who is also the Missioner of Serendipity House Widows Foundation, exhorted the women to be focused and hardworking and success would be theirs.

Citing herself, Olori Jaiyeola said: “A widow must work. She must have a skill, or find work.  There are widows who do cleaning work; there are those who are hairdressers; tailors; in the same vein, we have widows who are doctors, bankers, billionaires. So a widow should just look at what would better her life, not what would spoil or destroy her life. I looked for what would favour and elevate me. And they should never be alone.”

Club District 404B2 Governor, Mrs. Oluwakemi Eribake urged the women to devote themselves to training their children and mind their health.

“Do not joke with the education of your children or anything that will make them great in life. And do not joke with your health,” she said.

Clubs behind the event include  Ikeja Lions Club, Maryland Royal Lions Club, Maryland Golden Lions Club, Ilupeju Achievers Club, Lagos Esteemed Lions Club and Ikeja D’ivy Lions Club.
