A mother and her son narrowly escaped death on Wednesday morning after a Lexus sport utility vehicle overturned multiple times at the NYSC Bus Stop along the LASU–Isheri Expressway in Lagos.
The lone crash occurred during peak-hour traffic along the busy corridor serving the Lagos State University axis.
In a statement, LASTMA spokesperson Adebayo Taofiq said the Lexus Jeep, with registration number KJA 39 JT, was travelling from Isheri towards Igando when it suddenly lost control and overturned three times before coming to rest amid heavy vehicular movement.

“LASTMA operatives deployed within the axis rapidly mobilised to the scene and carried out a coordinated rescue operation. The occupants, a mother and her son, were extricated from the severely damaged vehicle with visible bruises and mild trauma, narrowly avoiding a fatal outcome,” he said.
Taofiq added that officers of the Nigeria Police Force, Igando Division, provided security support at the scene, ensuring crowd control and maintaining order during the rescue and evacuation process.
"Upon receiving notification, family members of the victims arrived shortly thereafter and conveyed the woman and her son for further medical evaluation and appropriate care," he said.
To prevent secondary accidents and ease traffic congestion along the ever-busy expressway, LASTMA officers coordinated the removal of the damaged vehicle with support from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA). The vehicle was subsequently handed over to the police for investigation.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed relief that no lives were lost in the incident.

He wished the victims a speedy recovery and reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to prompt emergency response, proactive traffic management, and sustained road safety enforcement.
Bakare-Oki also urged motorists to adhere strictly to speed limits and ensure routine mechanical checks of critical components such as braking systems before embarking on journeys.
He warned that excessive speed combined with mechanical faults remains a major cause of severe road crashes on major expressways.
