Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Patrice Motsepe has hailed Africa's historic allocation of 10 slots at the 2026 FIFA World Cup as a landmark moment in the continent's football development.
For the first time, Africa will be represented by 10 nations at the global showpiece — a significant increase from previous editions and a reflection of the continent's growing influence in world football.

"This is a recognition of the growth and global competitiveness of African football," Motsepe said. "We are confident our teams will make us proud, and we believe an African nation can lift the World Cup."
The expanded representation follows reforms to the World Cup format, with the 2026 edition set to feature an enlarged field of 48 teams. Africa stands among the major beneficiaries, with the additional slots giving more nations the opportunity to compete at the highest level.
With stronger squads, increased exposure and growing investment in the game, expectations are high that African teams will not merely participate but genuinely contend for honours.
As qualifying nations turn their attention to squad development and tournament preparation, the hope is that this historic milestone will serve as a springboard for an even greater achievement on football's biggest stage.
