Bernice Onoriode and Fervent Edet produced the defining moments of the MTN CHAMPS Grand Final at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan last Saturday, each completing sprint doubles to bring the curtain down on another compelling edition of the series.
Onoriode delivered the standout individual display of the day, setting a personal best of 11.88 seconds (+0.3) to win the Youth Girls' 100m — a performance made more remarkable by the fact that she had posted personal bests in all three rounds of the event. She returned later to claim the 200m in 24.44s, finishing ahead of Glory Asuquo (25.25s) and Racheal Afuape (25.52s).
Edet matched that consistency in the Youth Boys' category, clocking a lifetime best of 10.99s in the 100m heats before winning the final in 11.10s (+0.1), with Maleeq Odesanya second in 11.20s. He sealed his double with the 200m title in 22.45s, ahead of Christian Rotimi Alfred (23.05s) and Kareem Ayatullahi (23.26s).

Comfort James, the reigning national champion, claimed the women's 800m in 2:05.58, holding off Benin Republic's Odette Sawekoua (2:06.62), while Ayomide Olaitan won the men's 800m in 1:52.63, ahead of Adegoke Ogunseye (1:54.44).

Ghana's Kazali Iddrisu took the senior men's 200m in 21.28s ahead of Liberty Okon (21.56s), while Taofikat Sulaimon won the women's race in 24.06s.
The Grand Final marked the conclusion of another successful MTN CHAMPS series, with the performances across the weekend underlining Nigeria's depth of talent in track and field.
