Hon. Owoeye Adedeji Adeyemo, popularly known as OVO, an aspirant for Mushin Constituency 1 in the Lagos State House of Assembly (LAHA), has declared himself as the most suitable candidate to represent the constituency.
Describing himself as a true grassroots politician with deep knowledge of the people and the terrain, Adeyemo noted that he previously stepped down twice in support of the incumbent lawmaker, who is currently serving his second term and is seeking a third.
According to Adeyemo, there was an understanding within their political group that no individual should exceed two terms in office.
“There is a standing agreement that after two terms, others should be given the opportunity to serve and contribute,” he said, insisting that it is now his turn to represent the constituency.
“I am not a new face in the progressive family,” Adeyemo stated.
He said: “For many years, I have remained loyal to the ideals of our party, contributing to its growth both morally and financially whenever it mattered most. I have supported, served, and stood firm when the party needed steady hands.”
Speaking about his connection to Mushin, he emphasised his deep roots in the community.
He said: “Mushin Constituency 01 is home to me. I know this constituency like I know myself its streets, its struggles, its strength, and its spirit. I understand the daily challenges faced by our market women, our youths in search of opportunities, and families who desire safer, cleaner, and more developed communities.”
Outlining his vision, Adeyemo said his mission is to make governance more accessible and responsive.
He said: “My goal is simple to bring leadership closer to the people. Governance should not feel distant; it must be present, active, and responsive. I am here to replace silence with engagement and empty promises with measurable progress.”
Adeyemo further added that he brings fresh energy, practical ideas, and the experience needed to represent the constituency effectively at the Assembly.
He said: “I am prepared to lobby, advocate, and attract meaningful projects and infrastructure to Mushin from youth empowerment and economic development to community growth and social welfare.”
Adeyemo also stressed that true representation goes beyond basic gestures.
“Representation is more than distributing GCE and JAMB forms. That is something anyone can do, even without holding public office. While we acknowledge the efforts of the incumbent, I believe more can be done and I am ready to do better.”
Highlighting his strong grassroots connection, he said, “Elections are won on the streets. I was born and raised in Mushin, and I still live here. I have never distanced myself from my people, and that is why I am well-positioned to represent them effectively.”
He expressed confidence in his candidacy, noting that he has consulted widely within the party and received the support of key leaders. “I did not arrive here by chance. I have the backing of our party leaders, including the apex leadership, which is why I am in this race.”
With the party set to conduct an open primary in line with the vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Adeyemo said he is optimistic about securing the ticket. “I am confident that I will emerge as the party’s candidate for Mushin Constituency 01 in the Lagos State House of Assembly,” he concluded.
