• Welcomes Gwarzo's resignation

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has disclosed that his former deputy, Aminu Abdusalam Gwarzo, was involved in a plot to topple his government, revealing underlying tensions between them prior to Gwarzo's resignation.

Yusuf, who won the 2023 election on a joint ticket with Gwarzo on the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), made the allegation while addressing a loyal political group at Government House, Kano.

Though he did not provide plot details, the governor said the attempt failed, affirming his confidence in his mandate.

The governor welcomed Gwarzo's exit, calling it an opportunity for a credible replacement.

Although he stated that he had only heard of Gwarzo's resignation and had not even received an official letter regarding the development.

"Today, the deputy governor who came with us on the same ticket is no longer with us... Whatever made him act that way was an attempt to remove me and take over, but God didn't allow it," Yusuf said.

Yusuf also responded to criticism from the Kwankwasiyya Movement, accusing him of betrayal after leaving the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

He cited recent defections exposing the Movement's contradictions and emphasised prioritising Kano's interest.

With credible candidates vying for the vacant deputy governor's position, the Yusuf administration remains focused on governance despite tensions, the governor said.
