Former Kano State Governor and National Leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, on Wednesday said he was in Ibadan to inaugurate the party’s Oyo State office.

Kwankwaso, who arrived at the Oyo State Secretariat, Agodi, around 1:15pm, was received by Governor Seyi Makinde and later held a closed-door meeting with him.

He was accompanied by NNPP National Chairman, Dr. Ajid Ahmed, and National Publicity Secretary, Najipo Johnson.

Addressing journalists, Kwankwaso said the visit was to strengthen the party’s structure in Oyo ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“I am here with our national chairman and other officials to inaugurate our state office and discuss party matters.

“But before that, I paid a courtesy visit to the governor, who is my friend. This visit is about personal friendship, not party politics,” he said.

Kwankwaso noted that although Makinde belongs to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), he had deep roots in the party, having been elected Kano governor under its platform in 1999 and later serving as Minister of Defence.

Kwankwaso said he later joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) before moving to the NNPP, where he now serves as national leader.

He added that he would return to Abuja after the inauguration and party meetings.
