President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the establishment of a new campus of the Nigeria Police Academy at Erinja in Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State, with a special take-off grant of N15 billion.
The President has also reconstituted the governing council of the Police Academy in Wudil, Kano State.
The Presidency announced the approvals in separate statements yesterday in Abuja by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
The establishment of the Ogun campus is in line with the provisions of the Nigeria Police Academy (Establishment) Act, 2021, which provides for the expansion of the institution into multiple campuses across the country.
According to the statement, the N15 billion take-off grant will be sourced from the 2026 allocation of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) and will finance priority infrastructure, academic facilities, student accommodation, and core training assets.
The decision to site the academy in Erinja followed a high-level consultative meeting involving the Minister of Police Affairs, the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, officials of the Federal Ministry of Education, the Inspector-General of Police, and the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC).
The statement said the meeting considered key issues, such as student intake capacity, funding realities, academic quality assurance, and the long-term manpower needs of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), which is currently expanding recruitment.
President Tinubu said the establishment of additional campuses for the Police Academy is aimed at strengthening institutional governance, enhancing modern policing education, and bolstering national security.

Also, the President approved the reconstitution of the 16-member governing council of the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State, appointing the Minister of Police Affairs, Senator Ibrahim Gaidam, as chairman.
The reconstituted council includes key institutional stakeholders, such as the Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC) and the Inspector-General of Police (IGP).
Also listed as members are one representative each from the Federal Ministry of Education, the Federal Ministry of Finance, and the Federal Ministry of Justice.
In addition, six individuals were appointed to represent the country’s geopolitical zones on the council.
They are: Babagana Zannah Adam (a retired DCP) for the Northwast; Emmanuel Torkuma Manger for the Northcentral; Maigari Abati Dikko (a retied DIG) for the Northwest; Dubem A. Obaze (KSM) for the Southeast; Ajibogere Toyin for the Southwest; and Udom Udo Ekpoudom (a retired DIG) for the Southsouth.
The Commandant of the Academy, the Provost, and the Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) in charge of training will serve as ex officio members, while the Registrar of the institution will act as the Secretary.
The Nigeria Police Academy, with its main campus in Wudil, is a degree-awarding institution responsible for training and equipping officers of the NPF, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen professionalism and operational capacity within the country’s internal security architecture.
