The Nigeria Aquatics Federation (NAqF) has announced the rescheduling of the “Swim to the Future” event and the postponement of the National Junior Swimming Championship – “Swim for Life.”

According to the federation, the changes were necessitated by the passing of its president, Dr. Chamberlain Nnamdi Dunkwu, who died on March 7, 2026.

In an official statement, NAqF explained that Dunkwu was the sole sponsor of the “Swim to the Future” programme and a passionate advocate for youth development in aquatic sports.

The event, originally scheduled for March 6–7 will now take place in April 2026 and will be organised in honour of the late federation president in recognition of his immense contributions to swimming in Nigeria. A new date will be announced through the federation’s official channels.

Meanwhile, the National Junior Swimming Championship – “Swim for Life,” earlier slated for April 2–4, 2026, has been rescheduled to April 9–11, 2026 in Lagos.

The federation said the adjustment would allow for better logistical coordination and ensure the successful organisation of the championship.

NAqF expressed regret over any inconvenience the changes may cause but appealed for understanding from stakeholders as the aquatic community mourns the loss of a visionary leader.

The federation reaffirmed its commitment to developing aquatic sports and nurturing young talents through initiatives such as “Swim to the Future” and “Swim for Life.”
