The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has rolled out a clean energy empowerment initiative in Kano State, targeting more than 2,000 households with sustainable energy tools designed to curb climate impact and improve living standards.
The programme, launched on Tuesday at Fabs Event Centre in Kano, saw beneficiaries receive clean cookstoves, solar home systems, and other energy solutions to boost access to reliable, environmentally friendly power in rural and semi-urban communities.
Speaking at the flag-off, the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Jumoke Oduwole, described the initiative as a clear example of translating government policies into tangible benefits for citizens. She noted that the programme aligns with the administration’s economic priorities, including industrial growth, job creation, and inclusive development.
Oduwole highlighted Kano’s strategic importance, describing the state as a longstanding commercial and manufacturing hub in West Africa with strengths in trade, textiles, agro-processing, and enterprise.
In his remarks, NASENI’s Executive Vice Chairman, Khalil Suleiman Halilu, said the intervention is part of a broader national push to promote cleaner energy use and improve livelihoods.
According to him, the distributed cookstoves will help reduce smoke and fuel consumption, while the solar home systems will provide dependable electricity for households and small businesses.
“This initiative goes beyond empowerment. It is about dignity, improved quality of life, and equipping Nigerians with tools to enhance productivity and income,” Halilu said, urging beneficiaries to make effective use of the equipment.
