The Nigerian Navy has arrested two suspected pipeline vandals during an intelligence-led operation in Bayelsa State as part of efforts to curb crude oil theft in the Niger Delta.
Director of Naval Information (DINFO), Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, said personnel of Forward Operating Base (FOB) FORMOSO apprehended the prime suspect, identified as Godwin, alias “Idiot,” during a raid on April 25 at Egbama-Angalabiri in Ekeramo Local Government Area.
Folorunsho said the suspect, described as the leader of a pipeline vandalism syndicate operating along the Clough Creek axis, was arrested at a night market where he allegedly collected illegal levies from traders.

He added that naval operatives later searched the suspect’s residence but encountered resistance from armed members of the syndicate. The attackers were repelled after a coordinated tactical response.
According to him, two handheld radios and other technical items linked to illegal activities were recovered from the residence, while follow-up intelligence led to the arrest of another suspect, identified as Happiness, and the recovery of a pump-action gun.
The suspects have been handed over to the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for further investigation and prosecution.
Folorunsho reaffirmed the Navy’s commitment to protecting critical oil and gas infrastructure, warning criminal elements to desist from economic sabotage or face decisive action.
