The Nigerian Cancer Society (NCS) has appointed Chioma Ikejiani as the new National Chair of the National Coalition of Cancer Survivors (NCCS), succeeding the late Professor Ronald Bejide.

The NCS, in a statement signed by its National Director of Publicity, Bashir Mohammed, said her appointment is expected to strengthen survivor advocacy and drive ongoing reforms aimed at improving equitable access to cancer care nationwide.

According to the society, Ikejiani's appointment underscores her leadership credentials, policy expertise, and a longstanding commitment to advancing the welfare and representation of cancer survivors across the country.

A Stage 4 breast cancer survivor for over a decade, Ikejiani has emerged as a prominent advocate for oncology reform, drawing from personal experience to influence policy and patient support systems.

She brings more than 30 years of professional experience spanning global media, real estate, and health advocacy. A recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal, Ikejiani has been recognised for her contributions to community development, youth engagement, and social impact initiatives.

Before transitioning into health advocacy, she built a successful career in Canada’s luxury real estate sector, ranking among the top one per cent of professionals in the field.

Within the NCS, she previously chaired the Cancer Health Fund (CHF) Fact-Finding Committee, where she led a multi-stakeholder review of Nigeria’s cancer financing structure.

Her work resulted in the development of the Integrated, Real-Time Financial Liquidity Protocol (IRFLP), a reform framework aimed at improving funding efficiency, transparency, and sustainability in cancer care delivery.

She also introduced an “Enforced Transparency” model designed to strengthen accountability and data integrity across institutions involved in cancer treatment funding.

Ikejiani has served as Strategic Liaison and Lead Patient Advocate for the Cancer Health Fund at the National Hospital, Abuja, collaborating with the National Institute for Cancer Research and Treatment (NICRAT) and the Federal Ministry of Health.

In that role, she contributed to resolving funding challenges, facilitating reimbursements, and improving patients’ access to treatment.

Beyond policy work, she is the Executive Producer and Host of “The Survivor’s Desk,” a media platform focused on promoting health awareness and reshaping public discourse around cancer care.

She has also held executive production roles with AMOI Productions and State House Media, where she led the AMOI Unplugged interview series featuring senior government officials.

Her entrepreneurial ventures include founding AMOI Magazine and co-founding Sway Magazine in Canada, the country’s first Black lifestyle publication, later acquired by Torstar Media.

Ikejiani holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Political Science from St. Mary’s University, Canada, and has participated in high-level policy engagements, including programmes under the Office of the First Lady of Nigeria.
