Party urges civility in political engagement

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has distanced itself from a publication attributed to an online platform calling for opposition figures to rally under its banner to “run the APC out of the country”.

The party described the statement as misleading and unauthorised.

In a statement in Abuja by its Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Abdulmumin Ohiare Abdulsalam, the party clarified that the directive did not emanate from its national leadership but from what it described as “an enthusiastic supporter”.

NDC reaffirmed its commitment to issue-based and civil political engagement, noting that its ideology is rooted in respect, discipline, and constructive dialogue.

Drawing inspiration from its National Leader, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, the NDC stressed that it does not condone inflammatory rhetoric or statements capable of inciting hostility against individuals or political parties.

“Any statement calling for attacks on persons or parties, or suggesting that individuals be pushed out of the country, is unauthorized and does not represent the position of the NDC,” the statement said.

Acknowledging the passion and commitment of its members —particularly young supporters — the party cautioned against actions and utterances that could undermine its values.

It urged members and supporters to rely strictly on verified official communication channels for authentic information, listing its social media handles across X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok as @nigeriandchq.

The NDC also called on media organisations to verify statements attributed to the party before publication, warning against the dissemination of unverified claims from unofficial sources.

Reiterating its stance, the party advised its supporters to conduct themselves in line with its principles of civility and issue-driven politics, as it seeks to position itself as a credible alternative in Nigeria’s political landscape.
